November  23, 2007  Monthly Meeting

The regular meeting of the Napa Valley Orchid Society will be held at 7:30 pm, November  23, 2007 (the fourth Friday) at the Napa Valley Senior Activity Center, 1500 Jefferson St., Napa.

Because of illness, the originally scheduled guest speaker for the month, Dr. Joanne Whitney, has had to cancel. In her stead, Paul Chim, of San Leandro, CA. will present a program on strictly standard Cymbidium culture, no slides. Paul and his wife, Phyllis, are owners of May On Orchids. Paul has been very active for forty years in the orchid scene in the Bay Area. He is a fully qualified Cymbidium Society of America judge. He has served as president of the Orchid Society of California and in recent years, as chairperson for the San Francisco Society Fall Orchid Fest. He spoke here, several years ago. He has also for several years, conducted orchid travel tours to his native China and maintains a close relationship with several Chinese orchid growers, specializing in Chinese Cymbidiums.

Plants for the opportunity table will be provided by May On Orchids and will include a variety of genera.

Winner of the October membership plant – Cym. Donovan – was Cheryl Phillipson.
